    1. Really works

Reviewed: 06 October 2015 by Cleo76, a Straight Going Steady Female

I bought this to try because my partner and I really enjoy anal sex but it's often just too difficult for us. We have tried several other anal lubricants but never found anything that makes it easier.

This however worked immediately! The smell is awesome. Lovely menthol scent that's not at all overpowering. It's runnier than I thought it would be but that didn't matter. The sensation is rather nice. It tingles at first then changes to a lovely cooling sensation which numbs but doesn't desensitize. We had no trouble at all in managing sex.

    2. Overall Rating:
      10 out of 10 stars
      Pros
      Scent, sensation.
      Cons
      Nothing.
      Bottom line
Does what it says on the tub.

    1. If you have played with toothpaste before, this is right up your alley

Reviewed: 10 February 2015 by StrawberryJam

I was looking to refresh my existing anal lube options with something very thick and long-lasting. My Lovehoney BASICS Anal Lube seems to have a poor shelf-life when it comes to keeping gloopy. I had been using Vaseline for the thickness, but it is far from ideal as it is petroleum based and therefore neither latex nor body-friendly.

I was dubious of how well the menthol would act as a numbing agent instead of the more commonly seen benzocaine, but decided that it was worth a gamble.

      Fist Impressions:

When I opened my order and pulled out the tub nestled between my other items, I was rather worried when I noticed a thin layer of wetness between the plastic tub and the clear plastic shrink wrapping surrounding it. I realised after inspecting the tub closer that some of the lube had oozed its way out of the fully closed lid.

Nothing disastrous, but disconcerting all the same. I gave the overly supple tub a good squeeze and sure enough it was not at all very airtight when deformed. From the picture on the site I assumed the container would have been made out of glass or at least a much more sturdy plastic; but not the end of the world.

The label on the tub is shown on the picture on the website. The graphic of a golden fist and simple text upon the label are positively tasteful compared to the majority of sex toy brand packaging I have come across. The label contains a rather stark amount of information on it as to how and how not to use the product, which I took as a signifier that there was little that could go wrong, but still a little unsettling.

I removed the lid and was surprised with how strong the mint scent was. Nothing too overpowering, but as it was supposedly included as a numbing agent I had assumed it would be barely noticeable. The consistency was runnier than I thought it would be from the picture and from comparing it to the product videos of similar thick lubes that Lovehoney has available. I think I was expecting a very viscous powder-mix consistency which might be my next lube purchase.

I first tried the lube out quickly to see how it felt on genitals and around and inside the anus. If you have ever experimented with toothpaste or minty sensations then this is literally right up your alley. The menthol is not quite as harsh as toothpaste, but once you blow on the lube it gives off that wonderful little freezing sensation through a much more body-safe medium.

The second time I tried it I had a whole solo scene planned around it with some anal training with lots of different toys.

I used it to help ease in my douching plug which gets quite hot from the shower water and the lube stayed on very well so I can confidently say it will work well with temperature play too. After I was all clean I worked my way through my training toys while only very occasionally having to re-apply the lube as a little bit goes a long way.

The numbing sensation kind of crept up on me. The initial ‘ooh that’s tingly’ wears off after a few minutes or so and you are left with a much more relaxing toy insertion. I also applied the lube around my genitals and the numbing effect was much more noticeable after a while due to the more sensitive area. This was a very pleasurable sensation that I wholly recommend.

I never ran out of the lube and probably used far more than I required despite swapping through a wide range of toys. I have been disappointed by other lubes drying up too quick in the past. Another thing to note is the persistent white shade of the lube. Despite trapping an amount inside behind my largest training plug for a good 10 mins, my body heat and movement did not alter the state of the lube in any way. I was very impressed by this and it looks marvellously rude dribbling down a toy or out of your partner.

      Pros:

Menthol can be used for sensation play when blown on/first applied.

Scent pleasantly masks any odours in that area of play making it more enjoyable for partners.

I found the taste (once it has been in use for a while) to be quite pleasant in case you like to mix a little oral work in with your partner.

A little goes a long way and maintains consistency.

Rinseable tub label in case you get it messy.

Wide and deep tub for easier application or scooping.

Water-based so it is almost universally applicable.

Very easy to clean off with water.

Leaves toys with a slight pleasant, clean hint of mint after rinsing.

      Cons:

Initial menthol effect might not be so pleasurable if you are sensitive or not so adventurous.

The tub is far too flimsy for transport. I would decant some into a more rigid container if I was to have it in my luggage.

      Final thoughts:

I was surprised at how much I love this lube. It makes a scene smell so good and fresh and holds its form very well for a water-based lube. I have used toothpaste for sensation play in the past and this is the same but completely safe with the added bonus of neverending lubrication. For the price, 500ml is a steal.

I wasn't out looking for a numbing lube but the mint certainly brings something else to the table sensation-wise!

    2. Overall Rating:
      9 out of 10 stars
      Pros
Versatile, refreshing, economical, resilient, accessible, body safe and toy safe.
      Cons
      The flimsy container.
      Bottom line
A must-have for a breath of minty-fresh air into your playtime.

    1. Slippy very slippy

Reviewed: 18 July 2015 by Silly girl

Odourless, tasteless, easy to clean... Lies!

As far as it goes, it does the job very well, can't argue that at all.

However... Numbing, yes eventually, but at first it causes what can be best described as a mild burning sensation around what are undeniably your most sensitive areas. The initial ooohs and aaaahs are most likely due to the burning (this does go away - after a bit, though).

Odourless, hmmm considering I not long ago said "I can smell that odourless lube from the top of the stairs" when the room in which it was used was closed, I feel this is an inaccurate claim.

Tasteless. Nope, noooo, hell no. Think twice before putting that vibrating anal wand in your mouth, it's not going to end well no matter how "clean" you are ,as this tasteless lube in actual fact tastes like airwaves infused Vaseline. Bad times and odd faces all round.

Easy to clean... Well, I'm happy to report that a few months after unfortunately spilling fist it lube on my wooden floor it's now possible to walk across the room without resembling a baby giraffe and there is now little to no danger of falling due to the lubricated, ice rink like surface this glorious lube creates. It went down rather well at a party, I can tell you. People falling everywhere. Wonderful! So no mopping, scrubbing and the will of God will get rid of this shit.

So in all it's good lube and makes things a lot more comfortable and fun, but be prepared for your entire house to smell like vapourub and to fall if you get so much as a drip on your non-carpeted floor.

    2. Overall Rating:
      7 out of 10 stars
      Pros
      Does the job.
      Cons
Tastes awful and made my house rather hazardous.
      Bottom line
The fun lasts for ages - sexual and floor racing.
