How to Boost Your Sex Drive
on 10 Apr 2019
Turn up the turn on.
Do you enjoy having sex but find that you’re not often in the mood to initiate?
Do you wish you could get aroused more easily or desire your partner more often?
Put your seatbelts on because we’re going on a quick tour around the sex drive.
Sex drive or libido is basically how much or how often someone desires sexual activity. It varies from person to person and there’s no such thing as a “normal” sex drive because everyone is different.! Many things contribute to our sex drive including lifestyle, mental health, fitness and even our eating habits.
There’s nothing wrong with a lower sex drive as long as you’re happy. If you do decide you’d like to increase your sex drive though, there are a number of simple methods you can try.
Here’s my list of the best lifestyle changes you can make to help put your sex drive into overdrive.
Exercise more
Here’s one more reason “go to the gym more” is a great new year’s resolution: exercise is one of the best ways to boost your sex drive.
One of the libido-boosting effects of exercise is the release of endorphins (one of our feel-good hormones), which makes us more likely to feel happy, horny and ready to get it on.
Another effect of exercise is improved blood flow, which can contribute to increased levels of arousal.
Studies have found that men who exercise frequently are less likely to suffer erectile problems. Moreover, regular exercise can increase your strength, flexibility and stamina, as well as your self-esteem.
Confidence in your appearance and abilities is a great way to feel good in the bedroom and boost your libido as well. Next time you feel the need to hop onto your partner, hop onto a treadmill first or try lifting weights to get yourself prepped for sweeping your S.O. off their feet.

Find ways to reduce stress
Let's be honest: life can be pretty stressful. Sex is often the last thing on my mind when I’ve got an upcoming deadline or a full-on week.
Because stress can have this effect on libido, managing stress can boost your sex drive.
Yes, “be less stressed” is easier said than done, but there’s no harm in giving it a go. Try practising breathing exercises or mindfulness, ask your partner to give you a massage, treat yourself to a relaxing bath or play a favourite video game to find out which stress-reducing activities work for you.
And the best news? It turns out sex can actually reduce stress because it triggers the release of more of those happy hormones.
So, just by having sex you can both reduce your stress levels and boost your sex drive. What a great excuse to get laid instead of worrying!

Change your eating habits
When you’re looking to boost your libido, any foods that are good for your heart and blood flow are a good idea.
Foods which are thought to boost your sex drive for this reason include avocados, strawberries and watermelon, so load up on those fruit salads and avocado toast brunches!
Foods such as oysters, chocolate and hot chillies are often thought of as aphrodisiacs, or libido-boosting foods. However, there’s not much scientific proof to back up these claims, so there’s no need to go running to your nearest seafood restaurant next time you want to have sex.
These “quick-fix” aphrodisiacs probably won’t help much if you’re struggling with your sex drive (besides being super tasty), but switching to a healthier diet with more fruits, vegetables and nuts can give your libido a booster shot.

Talk about it
If you have a partner, communicate with them about how you're feeling. Yes, this may feel daunting but when it comes to partnered sex, it takes two to tango and making sure you both enjoy yourselves should be a priority. Pick a casual, non-sexual situation (for example, when you're out for a walk) with them to explain your thoughts and let them know it's about your sex drive, not about your attraction to them.
Once you're both on the same page about where your libidos are at and where you want them to be, the real fun begins. Together, there are few things you can do together to increase your arousal and help you build intimacy (click the links to find out how) but remember not to put too much pressure on yourself.
You could also try discreet, wearable toys like Kegel balls and knicker vibrators to slowly build your arousal while you're out and about.
These lifestyle changes are bound to increase your sex drive as well as your general health and happiness. Plus, they make great new year’s resolutions so that this year will be your sexiest yet!
