Position of the Week: The Laid-Back Ride

Want to be on top – but also kinda laid back? This leaned-back variation of the classic Cowgirl sex position puts the receiver firmly in the saddle and switches up the angle. It’s giving “fun boss” energy.

How?

Giver, lie on your back with your legs extended. Receiver, get on top and straddle your partner, placing your knees on either side of their waist.

Receiver, once your partner is inside you, lean your upper body back and place your hands behind you for support. From here, you can lift and lower your hips, rock forwards and backwards, or grind against the giver until you find the movement that feels just right.

Why?

Yeehaw, receiver! Just like the classic Cowgirl, being on top allows you to take charge. You decide the pace, depth and angle of penetration, and discover what kind of stimulation you actually enjoy.

The difference is, you're leaning back into your hands, which tilts your pelvis and helps your partner's strap-on or penis press right against your G-spot (or P-spot if you're that way endowed). Plus, if you have a clitoris, it'll be slightly more exposed for stimulation with a suction toy (or your lover's fingers).

Giver, there’s a visual bonus for you too. As your receiving partner leans back and opens up their body, you get a front-row view. Your hands are free to explore their hips, thighs, or vulva, so get busy.

For levelling up your ride

Make it even better

Receiver, are you a grinder or a rider? While bouncing up and down on your partner’s penis (or strap-on) is great fun, it can be hard to sustain for a long period of time.

Instead of lifting yourself up and down, stay seated low on your partner’s pelvis and slowly roll your hips in a circular motion, making sure to keep your upper body leaned back. This can create more consistent clitoral stimulation while still giving you the fullness of penetration.

Giver, if the receiver plans to stay leaned back, you can always use a powerful wand vibrator with a long handle and trace it over their nipples, belly and clit. The longer handle means you can tease those sweet spots without changing position or interrupting the rhythm.

Or, if they want to switch it up and lean forwards as well, swap the wand for a compact clitoral vibrator. A smaller toy can fit between your bodies, without getting in the way as the receiver rocks or grinds their pelvis.

Make it even easier

Riding can be hard work. Receiver, you might find supporting yourself behind your body puts pressure on your wrists and arms. To help, bring your hands closer to your hips, or stay more upright.

For even more support, giver, bend your knees and keep your feet flat on a bed or the floor. Receiver, you can then lean back and against the giver’s knees, using them as support while you ride. This takes the pressure off your wrists and makes that laid-back angle easier to maintain.

If your knees need some extra cushioning, slide a folded blanket or pillow underneath them. Thighs starting to get tired? Try swapping the up-and-down motion for some slower grinding. You can also let the giver gently support your hips with their hands while you take a much-deserved break from doing the work.

Make it even kinkier

Receiver, like being on top? Take the power dynamic a little further. If you’ve both agreed, secure the giver’s wrists with a pair of soft wrist cuffs. Let their hands rest on their chest or above their head, depending on what feels most comfortable.

As you grind, tell the giver to keep their hips still and let you do all of the moving. If they break the rule, stop riding for a moment as a playful punishment and make them beg before you start again. With the giver’s hands restrained, you can also lean forwards to tease their neck, chest or nipples, then pull back to leave them wanting more. You decide when they’ve earned your attention again.
